Had a great evening out at Waveland yesterday. Not a ton of boats, and just a slight breeze made for a good jon boat day. Thought there might be something going out deep, but only managed a few. Went shallow and figured them out pretty quick - they were chowing. Still looks like several bass are spawning or guarding, and many others have started to feed up shallow. Strikes were pretty vicious. Lots of females appeared spawned out - long and a bit skinny, but very healthy looking. Best fish went 4-04; Best 5 went a smidge over 18 pounds. Cranks, swimming jigs and Spooks.

Good job man that's sweet!! I have only been to waveland once and that was last year late summer and had a blast. It's only about an hour and 20 minutes from me so I should get over there more but I don't because of Newton. I'm going to have a couple weeks off at the end of june so I hope I can get over there sometime then and do some fishing. We caught all of our fish deep that one time last year and we didn't even try to fish shallow because it was late summer but we had a few people out on the lake tell us that you can still catch them shallow there in the heat of the summer even in the middle of the hottest days. Is that true? I know it's possible because there are a couple small non power plant lakes lake here in Illinois I fish and it can be 100 degrees outside and 90 plus water temps and still catch them in 3-5 foot of water.

Yep - the shallow bite actually gets better as the summer wears on. Deep bite will be where it's at in the next couple weeks, and will be key through June, but that slowly goes away as July and August come in and the thermocline gets restricted.
