A whole series of these little books were published/promoted by Garcia. This particular one was written by none other than Hall-of-fame outdoor writer, Homer Circle. The book was published in 1972. Of interest with this book was that it was purchased from Sportmart (note $0.94 price sticker). Sportmart was founded by members of the Hochberg family, the creators of the "superstore" concept, now the standard in retail marketing. Larry Hochberg had been involved with the first toy superstore concept back in 1957 when he coopted with Toys-R-Us, who eventually bought him out. In the early 1970s, Hochberg, along with partner Sanford Cantor, thought the same concept could work with sporting goods. In 1971, they opened the first Sportmart store in Niles, IL. Other stores in the Chicago area followed, and they quickly became the leader in the Midwest sporting goods market.
